  • Reducing bulging in the lower lids
  • Expanding vision with an improved line of sight
  • Creating a more alert, awake look
  • Achieving a more youthful appearance
  • Enhancing the shape and contour of the eyes
  • Improving eye comfort

Permanent tired-looking or droopy eyes can age a person so eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, may help them look and feel younger by surgically removing excess fat, skin, and muscle in the eye area. These issues can be caused by aging which can result in less volume in the upper eyelid over the years, which can be corrected with an upper blepharoplasty. In other cases, the eyelid can take on a droopy look due to a collection of extra skin or tissue, which is treated with a lower blepharoplasty. South Denver plastic surgeon, Dr. Manish Shah, will carefully make incisions on the outside of the eyelid and/or inside the lid to remove extraneous skin, depending on the patient’s particular case. The result of the surgery is more alert eyes which give a younger, softer, and more refreshed appearance.

The procedure may either be performed on the upper eyelid only or the lower lid, or both. There will be a difference in approaches when it comes to the upper and lower eyelids but the method is similar; removing any loose skin or tissue, and extracting or repositioning the fat deposit. There will also be separate incisions spots. It is important to understand that this will not help with other cosmetic issues such as crow’s feet, wrinkles or dark circles. The results of an eyelid surgery are fairly isolated within the upper and lower lid section only. There are other procedures that can be combined, for example the use of BOTOX®, to create a maximized outcome.

During your initial consult, Dr. Shah will explain treatment options based on your areas of concern that need to be addressed. Generally, ideal candidates are frustrated with drooping skin and folds above their eyes or bulging skin just under the bottom eyelid. These conditions can cause functional problems that can hinder everyday activities. For a rejuvenated facial appearance, blepharoplasty may be the ideal treatment for you. If you have excess, hanging skin on the upper eyelid or bulging bags under the eyes, blepharoplasty can fix this to provide you with a younger appearance.

Had 2 Surgeries, Nose Still Crooked - Overall it seems that people have good experiences with Dr. Shah so mine may be the outlier, but I am not really happy with my results and the process. I had Rhinoplasty done nearly 3 years ago now, that was also an osteotomy. The first issue was a mismatch of expectations. I realize everybody heals differently but I was told that I wouldn't bruise badly due to my skin type and being male. After the first surgery I had black eyes for 3 months. After waiting for a long period of healing 1+ year, I still had a large dorsal hump, and my nose turns to the left, something that wasn't there pre-surgery. After a year, Dr. Shah was nice enough to do a free revision in his office (minus the cost of surgery supplies). We had agreed to fix the dorsal hump, straighten out the nose and take down the tip a little. After this revision the dorsal hump part was fixed but the nose was still crooked and the tip wasn't taken down. We also used part of my ear to graft a piece of cartilage. I was told the scar wouldn't be noticeable, but its very noticeable 1.5 years later and people have asked me about it. After 6 months I went back and we talked about how the tip still wasn't straight. He recommended I try bend my nose with a popsicle stick daily and said we'd have to wait 1 to 1.5 years after the revision to consider another revision. I did all the exercises and then coronavirus hit so I just waited until it had been 1.5 years post surgery and still my nose was crooked. At this additional 1.5 year follow-up visit, he recommended I tape my nose to my cheek every night to help bend it and said he didn't think surgery was a good at this point and to re-evaluate in another 6 months. At this point 3 years in, i'm not really willing to wait another 6 months, nor do I think taping my nose to my cheek while I sleep is going to be sufficient. This may help to some degree, and I'm not a surgeon obviously, but I feel like 2 surgeries should have created a straight nose, a problem that didn't exist before the first surgery. Overall I really want to like Dr. Shah and people have good experiences with him. But after thousands of dollars, 3 years, and a crooked nose the results are the results. I will be setting up a consultation with another doctor in Denver to get a second opinion on a tip-plasty revision

Amazing experience! - I came in for a consultation with Dr. Shah for a different issue and ended up speaking to Dr. Shah about skin care. I had horrible melasma and we discussed several treatment options. I was somewhat skeptical because I had tried so many different prescription and non-prescription treatments with minimal results. I had even tried laser, which did improve my acne scarring, however worsened my melasma. Dr. Shah was confident his Alchemy Clarity cream would clear up my melasma. I decided to purchase it with little expectation. Let me tell you, within 5 DAYS my melasma was almost ALL gone! I couldn't believe my eyes - as I had tried sooo many products!!!! If you suffer from melasma, this is your go to cream. Dr. Shah and his staff customize the perfect formula for you right there in the office. And a HUGE PLUS is that it is affordable!!!!

rhinoplasty - I’m three days before getting my surgery with Dr. Shah. So far I’m feeling really excited I’ve been watching vlogs about them. I’m going to have a closed rhinoplasty that will get ride of the dorsal hump I have. He also explained that in removing that the side of my nose will be pushed in so that it isn’t as wide anymore. During our consultation he listened to what I had wanted which was to remove the dorsal hump and slim the middle and showed me what he can do for me.Updated on 11 Aug 2019:So the first few days after surgery there wasn’t really pain for me at all except for headaches that would come and go. I did bruise/swell around my eyes. Around day 5&6 my swelling had moved to my cheeks and the bruising around my eyes were almost gone. Getting my splint removed a big relief even though my nose was still swollen Dr. Shah did an amazing job. The only dislikes for me so far are that my eyes are a bit sunken in from lack of sleep. Other than that recovery has been great I have not run into any concerns so far and I couldn’t thank Dr. Shah enough. Updated on 3 Nov 2019:Soooo already three months in! I’m super happy with my results. My face is all back to normal with no swelling or discoloration and still have not run into any complications. I love how natural the results are, now my nose fits the rest of my face. At my check in appointments he and his staff were very hospitable and made sure all my questions or concern were answered. Most definitely picked the right surgeon.

Don’t know where to begin. Dr Shah was highly recommended by a friend who had recently completed neck and upper eyelid surgery. I went in for the initial consultation for upper eyelid surgery and Dr Shah explained the procedure in detail. It has now been almost two months since the surgery date I and couldn’t be happier!!! The whole experience ( including the staff) was great. 10 thumbs up…

I went to Dr Shah for a rhinoplasty nearly 10 years ago. He was the only surgeon out of the 3 I’ve visited that understood my needs and what suited my face structure. He also understood I was to have corrective jaw surgery afterwards and positioned my nose in a way that would accommodate the new position of my upper jaw. I recently got blepharoplasty done by him. He again was very accommodating and understood my goals. Recovery time and check up was pretty smooth. The office staff have consistently been very friendly to me as well. Would highly recommend Dr Shah to anyone!!! He’s really helped me with my self confidence!!!

The most common problem with the upper eyelid is excess skin that droops and hangs over the eyes. Not only does this look unappealing, but it can also obstruct vision for a patient. The doctor will create an incision along the natural fold of the eyelid and extract any excess fat and tissue to remove any bulges. Once done, excess skin will also be trimmed and the cut will be closed with fine sutures. There are cases when fat tissues are only repositioned instead of excised.

There are two options for incisions when it comes to lower eyelid surgery. This treatment will improve any appearance of bulging and sagging below the eye. Incisions may be made just slightly below the lash line and excess fat, tissue, or skin will be excised. If the skin has retained good elasticity, a transconjunctival incision may be a better option as the cut is made inside the lower eyelid, which effectively makes any resulting scar concealed. A lower lid lift does not necessarily improve the dark circles that may occur under the eyes. The surgeon may recommend combining a lower blepharoplasty with another procedure such as a chemical peel or an injectable filler.

About Us

During / After Surgery

Eyelid surgery is performed with general anesthesia. If the procedure involves both upper and lower eyelids, the plastic surgeon will typically manage the upper eyelid first. On average, it takes 1-2 hours to complete the operation. The patient will be sent home for recovery. For the first few days, there will be swelling and discoloration around the area. It is advised that the head is elevated for the first few days. Pain medications and antibiotics will be prescribed to manage the initial discomfort. Strenuous activities must also be restricted.

If you are having a hard time seeing due to folds of skin on your upper eyelids or are frustrated by puffy bags under your eyes, then cosmetic eyelid surgery at Shah Aesthetic Surgery may be the answer for you. This procedure can help you look younger and more alert while also offering a gorgeous answer to your vision impairment concerns. We encourage you to contact our office in South Denver to set up a consultation with Dr. Shah.

Evident Scars?

Eyelid surgery, whether upper or lower, generally does not cause visible scarring. This is because the surgeon takes great care to ensure that the incisions are made within the natural lines and folds of the eyes. Once the surgical healing has passed, the incisions will not be noticeable even to the naked eye.

Wrinkles and Crow's Feet?

Crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles are better treated with procedures such as a facelift, browlift or a cheek lift as the results of the eyelid surgery are confined to the eyelids only. Eyelid surgery can also be combined with a nonsurgical procedure such as BOTOX, which combats wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. An injectable filler can also be effective because it adds volume to hollow areas for a softer, smoother appearance.

Post-Surgery Complications?

Complications and irritations after surgery are rare. Patients must strictly adhere to care instructions prescribed by the surgeon to minimize any risks of infection as the eyes can be sensitive after surgery. Patients must always take precaution of protecting the eyes from the sun and wind during the first few weeks of recovery.

Better Eyesight?

Blepharoplasty not only corrects a cosmetic issue, but a functional one as well. Many patients with excess hanging skin on their upper eyelid are able to regain normal vision after surgery. For many, simply applying makeup without maneuvering around the excess skin is refreshing in and of itself.
