You might discover at many facilities, facial injections and facial treatments are often performed by nurses or medical aestheticians with little oversight by a qualified physician. In my practice, I personally perform all injection and skin care procedures. This is to ensure quality care and to optimize your results.

Soft Tissue Fillers

Evolence® is an advanced collagen-based dermal filler that provides long-lasting correction of moderate to deep facial wrinkles and folds. It is especially effective for nasolabial folds (wrinkles from the nose to the corners of your mouth). Scientifically engineered to mimic the properties of natural collagen in skin, Evolence is a breakthrough in aging treatment. Injected just below the skin’s surface, Evolence replaces facial collagen, which naturally depletes with age, and smoothes out wrinkles and folds. Evolence uses innovative Glymatrix technology that increases the stability and longevity of the filler.

The results of Evolence are immediate and produce a natural enhancement with little to no swelling or bruising. Any swelling you may experience right after the procedure should resolve after a few hours. Considerable results can generally be obtained after only one treatment. You may, however, desire touch-ups to further enhance your new look. Treatment results have been clinically proven to last up to 6 months, and in many cases have been reported to last as long as 12 months.

Radiesse® is a calcium hydroxyapatite product that is also a filler, but for deeper lines and folds. It can be used to augment areas of deficient tissue. This product is similar to bone and as it gets absorbed a bed of collagen scar tissue gets left behind to hold the augmentation. This effect lasts on the order of 2 years. It is FDA-approved.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Restylane® is a hyaluronic acid gel created in the laboratory from bacteria that is used to fill in fine to moderate wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies that is commonly found in connective tissue. It functions to cushion and lubricate. The effects are thought to last around 6-8 months. Individual results will vary with location and amount injected. It is FDA-approved.

JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel - Touted as the "next generation" of facial fillers, Juvéderm injectable gels gently smooth wrinkles and folds around the mouth and nose and restore a youthful volume to the face. Made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body that works with collagen and elastin to provide volume and support to the skin, Juvéderm™ is especially effective on smile lines and "parentheses" (nasolabial folds) that run from the bottom of the nose to the sides of the mouth. Treatment takes only 15 minutes with immediate results and no downtime. Results typically last about 6-9 months.

Prevelle™ Silk is an advanced hyaluronic acid (HA) gel dermal filler that is injected just under the skin's surface with minimal irritation. The gel adds volume and smoothes out facial wrinkles and folds for a more youthful appearance. Prevelle Silk consists of purified hyaluronic acid, which is a natural complex sugar already found in your skin, and lidocaine. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic added to provide pain relief at the site of the injection. The result is a safe painless procedure that generates smooth skin with little to no downtime.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

Botox is an FDA-approved medication used to treat moderate to severe wrinkling of various areas of the face. It is made of laboratory purified C. Botulinum toxin type A. Small amounts of the neurologically active substance are injected into overactive muscles associated with wrinkling. Over the next 2-7 days the muscles relax and the wrinkles in the overlying skin become less noticeable. The effect lasts 3-4 months in general. If the muscles are kept weakened long enough, they tend to shrink and this lessens the frequency with which injections need to be done to get the desired effect. Individual results will vary depending on the strength of the underlying muscles and the depth of the wrinkles. This is a very safe and effective way to diminish the early signs of aging in the face. In fact, it is the most common non-surgical cosmetic procedure performed in the U.S.

Skin Care

Through our office patients have access to the latest in physician-directed skin care products. I have carefully chosen my product line for value and effectiveness. These products include moisturizers, sun block, home peels, home microdermabrasion, after-laser care, skin lighteners, and mineral makeup. Our products include the following:

Cosmelan® is a new product from Mesoestetic that we are offering to help treat hyperpigmentation of the face due to inflammatory changes in the skin. It is also used to treat melasma. The purpose of the treatment is to lighten dark patches and decrease the variation in pigment from one area of the face to another. It can safely be used on all skin types.

The series of pictures to the right were given to me by Mesoestetic from their clinical series. The column on the right shows the results after treatment was completed. They show marked improvement in skin coloration. Most patients continued the treatment started in the office at home for 6-12 months.

Laser Procedures

The Shah Clinic is one of only 15 practices in North America to offer state-of-the-art skin analysis with the Tru-Vu camera system.

Procedures include Active FX, Deep FX and IPL Fotofacials.

The Active FX laser from Lumenis is a state of the art fractional CO2 laser that provides easily visible improvement in the signs of aging of the face, neck, chest, and hands with often only one treatment. Downtime is improved to less than one week in most cases. Addition of the Deep FX treatment modality for deeper wrinkles and acne scars can result in significant skin rejuvenation.
